The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) Announce Executive Director

Brownsville, TX – The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC), Brownsville’s “type b” economic development organization, formally announces the selection of Josh Mejia as the new Executive Director. In his capacity, Mr. Mejia will ensure that the BCIC continues to expand on the organization’s economic development strategies to ensure Brownsville, Texas begins to activate its untapped potential alongside with staff, board members, city management and city officials.

“We as a board feel strongly that Brownsville, Texas is on the cusp of significant economic development and tremendous opportunities will follow. We feel strongly that Mr. Mejia is the ideal individual who has the unique skill set required to take advantage of these opportunities and position Brownsville to be a leader, not only regionally, but statewide and nationally”, stated Michael Limas, Chair of the BCIC Board of Directors.



Mr. Mejia’s background uniquely positions him to assume this post and advance the organization’s current economic development strategic plan with new innovative trends that revolve around capitalizing on human capital, fostering entrepreneurship, and activating new emerging industries. For the last eight years, Mr. Mejia has worked in both the public and private sector in the fields of marketing, business administration and government relations at a local, state and national level. As a native of Brownsville, Mr. Mejia has been distinguished as an individual who understands the ongoing challenges the city currently faces and has begun to work alongside key stakeholders at a local, state and federal level to proactively strategize towards viable solutions.

“I am extremely humbled to be able to work alongside phenomenal staff, board members, city management, and city officials that are all eager to activate our city and position the community into new heights. I am extremely committed to adapt a new approach to economic development that will supplement our city’s competitiveness by providing the necessary resources for success to our human capital and investing in strategic infrastructure necessary to foster innovation” stated Josh Mejia, Executive Director of the BCIC.



In the past sixty days, under Mr. Mejia’s new tenure, the BCIC has been able to quickly adapt and drive projects forward that have resulted in half a million dollars of investment (including public and private funds) in Downtown Brownsville to date as well as position the community to be the home of the largest entrepreneurial center of its kind south of San Antonio, Texas (eBridge – Center for Business & Commercialization).
