The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation announces their Partnership Grant to promote economic development opportunities in the community.

BROWNSVILLE, RGV — The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) would like to announce the opening of their Partnership Grant opportunities for events, activities and campaigns taking place from January 1st to December 31st, 2019. The grant opportunity continues to accept applications from 501(c)3 organizations with projects that will significantly impact the city’s sales tax revenues.

The Partnership Grants replaced the previously known Promotion & Community Events Grant which provided supplemental funding for marketing expenditures towards community events, campaigns or community activities designed to attract tourism to the community and promote local spending. Previously, BCIC would open its grant cycle twice a year to address projects by community partners. Under the new modifications, BCIC will open the Partnership Grant application for 501(c)3 organizations on October 1st with a deadline on November 15th at 3:00 PM for projects taking place from February 1st, 2019 to December 31st, 2019.

The adapted modifications of having a “year-round cycle” will result in a more open and inviting approach to partner with community organizations who have previously applied, and for those who may not have partnered with BCIC yet at any capacity.

The BCIC encourages all organizations who are eligible to partner with Brownsville’s “type b” economic development organization to submit an application and showcase projects that promote tourism, local spending, and result in a significant positive impact towards the community’s sales tax revenues.

Rebeca Castillo, Executive Director of the BCIC, states the following concerning the announcement,

“It is extremely important for our community to take an active role in making sure our city has a competitive edge in our region. As a result, we ensured our Partnership Grant provides a needed year-round opportunity to supplement organizations with additional marketing dollars towards creative projects intended to impact our city’s sales tax revenues.”



The current changes to BCIC’s existing grants and programs are a direct result of the dynamic economic development needs in the community that include improving the city’s tourism impact, fostering a successful small business environment, and maintaining the downtown development momentum.
